Parcel insurance on Pigee: what is covered and how to claim

A plain English guide to adding parcel insurance, what it does and does not cover, and the steps to take if something goes wrong.

Most parcels arrive safely, but when you are sending something valuable it makes sense to protect it. Pigee parcel insurance can be added when you book, and covers eligible items against loss, theft and damage while they are in the carrier’s hands.

Pigee provides access to the cover. The insurance itself is underwritten by an insurer and administered by Figural, an accredited insurance intermediary that also handles claims. The full Insurance Terms apply and are worth reading before you ship anything valuable.

What cover protects against

  • Total or partial loss of the parcel.
  • Theft while in transit.
  • Damage to the items during carriage.
  • Non-delivery to the named recipient.

What is usually excluded

Some items cannot be covered, and cover depends on the parcel being packed properly and described accurately. Check the exclusions in the Insurance Terms before you buy, particularly for cash, jewellery, fragile items, perishables and anything restricted by the carrier.

If something goes wrong

  1. Do not throw away the packaging or damaged item.
  2. Take clear photos of the outer box, the inner packing and the damage.
  3. Gather your order reference, proof of value such as a receipt or invoice, and the tracking history.
  4. Contact Pigee support as soon as possible so the claim can be opened with the claims administrator.

Pack to protect your cover

Good packaging is part of the deal. Use a strong box, cushion every side and seal it well. Our guide to packaging fragile items has more detail.
